The 3s’ season started with a disheartening defeat away against the skilful university team Imperial Medics (2-8). With true Ashford grit the team worked hard at the next training session and bounced back with a win against local rivals Teddington 6s (3-0). The team found their groove in the next match and found themselves in command of a 2-0 victory over Old Merchant Taylors. The following week’s heavy rain saw the team canoeing back over to Teddington for a very soggy win against Teddington (3-1).
The 3s team has developed a powerful press which is forcing opposition after opposition into back and side balls enabling the team to control the play. This solid attacking front line created the team’s 4th consecutive win over a youthful Chiswick 6s (4-1). Further consistent training was translated onto the pitch by every member of the team resulting in a superb result against Eastcote 5s in which President and stalwart 3s player Lynne assures me is unequalled on Astro (14-0). 🤩
Cue Lockdown 2 and lots of solo runs supported by terrific team spirit (God bless WhatsApp) …
Glad hearts but heavy legs saw the team tackle a youthful Ealing 3s. A game resembling more ping pong than hockey saw both sides charging up and down the pitch resulting in a (3-3) draw.
Congratulations (and thanks) to our team ‘postman’ Gillian Clegg who stands proud as the division’s top scorer and 5th in the league – well done 👏👏👏
Time and again training routines have been put into play and the 3s are currently sitting pretty at the top of the table! As we head into 2021 and the second half of the season, the hunt is still on for promotion! 🏆
