Back the Bid for the Men’s Hockey World Cup 2026

Ashford HC was well represented by its membership at the recent Commonwealth Games (CWG) in Birmingham. In an exciting hockey tournament, England’s men secured bronze and England’s women secured the first ever hockey CWG gold medal!

Wales finished fifth (men) and seventh (women). Scotland finished ninth (men) and fifth (women).

If you enjoyed the CWG hockey, whether you attended in-person or were glued to your TV, you’ll be delighted to learn the exciting news that England Hockey and Hockey Wales have submitted a joint bid to host the Men’s Hockey World Cup in 2026!

The Women’s Hockey World Cup in London back in 2018 was a fantastic event with big crowds and great atmosphere and, if the English and Welsh bid is successful, plans for the 2026 tournament could well take global hockey tournaments to a whole new level.

The plan is to use the portable pitch technology laid for the Great Britain Pro League matches at Harlequins rugby stadium in 2019 [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IDvW_NVY8n0], and roll this out in existing rugby and football stadiums across England and Wales for the Men’s Hockey World Cup. The final would be held at Tottenham Hotspur FC’s 62,000+ capacity stadium in London.

How can you back the bid?

England Hockey and Hockey Wales need evidence of your enthusiasm and support to convince the International Hockey Federation (FIH) that their bid should be chosen over other applicants. Register your interest and help show the power that this event can have to bring the hockey world together in England and Wales’s amazing stadiums. Click below.
